About Manual Cinema’s The End of TV
Set in a post-industrial Rust Belt city in the 1990s and told through a collection of original 70’s R&B-inspired art pop songs, THE END OF TV explores the quest to find meaning amongst the increasingly constant barrage of commercial images and advertising white-noise. Two sides of the American Dream — its technicolor promise as delivered through TV ads, and its failure, witnessed in the dark reality of industrial decline — are staged in cinematic shadow puppetry and lo-fi live video feeds with flat paper renderings of commercial products. The show is driven by a sweeping chamber art pop song cycle performed live by a five-piece band.

About The Lakefront – Theater on the Lake
Located in the historic Theater on the Lake building at Fullerton, The Lakefront Restaurant is an upscale tavern with seating for 125 at intimate tables, communal seating and a lounge area. The Lakefront’s Skyline Patio, open seasonally, provides stunning views of the Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline with seating for 80.

Jul 27   Taste of Lincoln Avenue 2019

In a city of street fests, one would be hard-pressed to find one more iconic than Taste of Lincoln Avenue.

It’s legendary for many reasons. Celebrating its 36th year in 2019, it’s easily one of the city’s oldest summer happenings Another is its sheer size. The fest sprawls over several city blocks in the heart of the vibrant Lincoln Park/DePaul neighborhood.

And like a fine wine it has aged well (and expanded) over the years. It offers lots of fun things beyond its 100 food, arts/crafts and other vendors. These include:

  • Two stages of great music featuring both national and regional acts.
  • For families there’s the wildly popular (and free entry) “Kids’ Carnival” area open each afternoon that features entertainment, art activities, pony rides, kiddie rides and more.
  • For adults there’s the popular Wine, Whiskey & Tequila Tastings. Ticketed tasting sessions are held several times over the weekend.
  • In addition, for both kids and adults with a sweet tooth a more recent fest addition is a fun stand-alone “Chocolate Fest” area with tastings and sales.

The bottomline? When it comes enjoying summer in the Windy City, Taste of Lincoln Avenue should be at the top of everyone’s list!

Sep 18   CAPS Hospitality Subcommittee Meeting

CAPS stands for Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy. This successful program is a partnership between the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and local communities. CAPS, which began in 1993, “brings the police, the community, and other City agencies together to identify and solve neighborhood crime problems, rather than simply react to their symptoms after the fact.” Read more about CAPS at the CPD website.

The idea of forming a CAPS Hospitality Subcommittee for Lincoln Park businesses came as the direct result from feedback the LPCC received from bar and restaurant members who wanted an ongoing forum to discuss items relating to the hospitality industry. The businesses also wanted a way to receive information in a timely matter about issues such as city ordinances, state laws, liquor licenses, security and neighborhood concerns. This subcommittee helps establish better synergy and communication between the City of Chicago, Chicago Police Department and Lincoln Park bar and restaurant owners and managers.
