Jun 02   Spring Zing 2018
Lincoln Central's popular family-friendly Spring event, Spring Zing, will return for its 5th consecutive year on Saturday, June 2nd. The event will be held at Lincoln Central Park (corner of Lincoln & Dickens) and along Richard "Dickie" Harris Way (the stretch of Dickens between Lincoln & Larrabee).

Back by popular demand will be noted magician Sean Masterson, who North Shore Magazine called "Chicago's most thought provoking wizard." Masterson will delight and astonish the crowd with close up magic and mind-bending illusions. Bill Kurtis says of Masterson: "His magic does more than puzzle the mind; it creates a sense of wonder and excitement."

Returning for the fifth year will be the always popular balloon art and face painting duo, A Real Mad Hatter. The kids will also be able to enjoy the bounce house again this year provided by our friends at Lakeshore Sport & Fitness. Lakeshore will also be providing carnival games and 9 Square in the Air, the new youth game sweeping the country. Fire Engine 22 is expected to return with lights flashing to welcome children to climb aboard. We'll also have games, arts & crafts, great raffle prizes and much, much more.

Safety and security will also be on our minds at Spring Zing. Once again the Community Volunteer Corps from Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago will be on hand to provide bike and pedestrian safety lessons for families. When it comes to safety, that's not all. This year, we've added self-defense lessons for children provided by trained specialists from Lakeshore. ADT Custom Home Services will be on hand to provide tips on the latest in home security options.

Let's not forget the delicious treats from popular local establishments. Our friends from Geja's Cafe will once again be on hand to serve their delicious fondue creations. Geja's, always a popular attraction at LCA events, was voted the Best Place to Dine in Lincoln Park in 2017 at the Best of Lincoln Park AwardsVanille and Insomnia Cookies will also be serving up delectable treats. Additional food and beverage participants will be announced next week.

Special guests at the event will again include 5th District Congressman Mike Quigley, State Representative Ann Williams, and 43rd Ward Alderman Michele Smith.

Jun 06   CAPS Hospitality Subcommittee Meeting

CAPS stands for Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy. This successful program is a partnership between the Chicago Police Department (CPD) and local communities. CAPS, which began in 1993, “brings the police, the community, and other City agencies together to identify and solve neighborhood crime problems, rather than simply react to their symptoms after the fact.” Read more about CAPS at the CPD website.

The idea of forming a CAPS Hospitality Subcommittee for Lincoln Park businesses came as the direct result from feedback the LPCC received from bar and restaurant members who wanted an ongoing forum to discuss items relating to the hospitality industry. The businesses also wanted a way to receive information in a timely matter about issues such as city ordinances, state laws, liquor licenses, security and neighborhood concerns. This subcommittee helps establish better synergy and communication between the City of Chicago, Chicago Police Department and Lincoln Park bar and restaurant owners and managers.

Aug 01   CAPS Hospitality Subcommittee Meeting
