Name:
When Youth Grieve: Understanding How to Create Meaningful Support
Date:
December 4, 2026
Time:
11:00 AM - 12:00 PM CST
Event Description:
Grief is a universal human experience, yet it is often misunderstood and inadequately supported — especially for children and adolescents. By age 18, 1 in 11 youth will experience the death of a parent or sibling, and that number more than doubles by age 25 (Judi's House, 2025). This session explores how grief presents across childhood and adolescence, highlighting why children's grief differs from adults' and the role developmental stage plays in shaping their experience. Participants will examine common myths and misconceptions, apply current evidence-informed frameworks for understanding how youth grieve, and leave with practical, developmentally responsive strategies for supporting grieving children, adolescents, and the caregivers around them across a range of settings.
